One Tree Planted, Global

One Tree Planted is a non-profit organization dedicated to global reforestation. Founded in 2014 it partners with local communities and environmental organizations across 82+ countries; planting trees to create lasting impact for nature, people and wildlife.

Through our work with One Tree Planted, Ozone is now well on its way to achieving our goal of planting 1 tree for every core product sold since we started in 1998, with over 270,000 trees donated to 7 planting projects across the world through One Tree Planted alone!

We will update you as the projects unfold, but here is an overview of each exciting initiative we have chosen to support:

Guatemala – Restoring the Southwest Coast of Guatemala
This reforestation project focuses on restoring mangrove ecosystems and surrounding landscapes along Guatemala’s Pacific coastal marine zone. By addressing the degradation of mangrove forests caused by illegal logging, pollution, and unbalanced hydrological conditions, the project will enhance biodiversity, protect against extreme weather, and support the livelihoods of more than 400 families, These efforts will improve ecosystem health through sustainable forestry, fishing and ecotourism. In total Ozone has donated 103,206 trees (mangrove and broadleaf species), reforesting 78.3 hectares.

Peru – San Martin

Ozone has donated 40,110 trees to a project in San Martin, Peru that is seeking to revitalize degraded ecosystems by reintroducing native plant species, promoting sustainable agricultural practices, and improving urban and rural green spaces. Its multifaceted approach combines forest restoration, agroforestry systems and afforestation initiatives, with the aim of restoring biodiversity, improving livelihoods and mitigating climate change.

Florida, USA – Longleaf Pine Restoration

In the western Florida Panhandle, a longleaf pine restoration project is taking place in an area which includes the largest remaining tract of old-growth longleaf pine in the Southeast. This project replaced offsite pine species with longleaf pine, planting 400,000 longleaf pine seedlings at approximately 500 trees per acre. The project directly benefits 10 federally listed species and countless others, as well as thousands of people in the local community and beyond.

Ozone has donated 40,110 trees – a total of 88.2 acres reforested.

Romania – Wind Damage Reforestation

A large proportion of the Carpathian basin with an altitude above 1000m is populated by monocultures of spruce that grow quickly for harvesting. However, due to their relatively shallow root systems, these forests are particularly vulnerable when it comes to windthrow events.

Much of this land was made barren by various storms between 2015-2020. This project aims to restore the naturally occurring biodiversity in the area as well as increase forest resilience. Ozone is helping by donating 40,110 trees (a mix of spruce, beech and pine) which should lead to improved biodiversity, erosion control and increased habitat for wildlife.

Thailand- Hilltribes Forestry and Agroforestry

Ozone has donated 15,946 trees to a project working in the Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai areas of Thailand. Intent on watershed restoration, the project engages local communities and results in environmental regeneration, economic empowerment, and spiritual renewal. Together, these enable farmers to thrive and live in a way conducive to protecting their land as a byproduct of their values, not a top down directive. An additional and unique component to our program in Thailand is our local team’s advocacy with government agencies to promote human rights for marginalized ethnic minorities, particularly relating to their farming livelihoods and land tenure.

Bhutan- Mountain Hazelnuts for Livelihood and Climate

This project seeks to provide a long term livelihood for smallholder farmers and communities across Bhutan, while rehabilitating and protecting the environment by stabilizing degraded agricultural land and sequestering atmospheric CO2. By changing the main production varieties to those that require lower chill hours, the project will enable smallholder farmer to continue to produce hazelnuts, despite the warmer winter temperatures. The project also creates reliable income generation opportunities for smallholder farmers, while enhancing the entire ecosystem of their farms. Ozone has donated 19,505 trees to this project.

Nepal – Restoring Endangered Red Panda Habitat Corridors

The overall goal of the project is to restore degraded forest areas through tree planting and to promote conservation awareness in the local community, thus creating new habitats for the endangered wildlife of the region and encouraging the free movement of endangered species between India and Nepal.

Ozone has donated 13,636 trees (Rhododendron, East Himalayan fir, Bamboo, Thick Leaved Oak, Himalayan Whitebeam, Umbrella plant), but the project will also involve an extensive public awareness campaign to educate and motivate the local community and youth for the conservation of natural resources and the importance of tree planting.
